OUR HISTORY

Humboldt Bay Professional Firefighters Local 652 was officially recognized on March 4, 2014. HBF Local 652 was formed from Eureka Firefighters Local 652 and Humboldt Fire District #1 Local 1770 when the parent agencies consolidated to form Humboldt Bay Fire JPA in January 2011.
Eureka Firefighters Local 652 was affiliated on February 26, 1940. There were 11 founding members. Even before the Local was formed, Eureka Firefighters were involved with the community it served. Starting in the Twenty’s firefighter teamed up with the local Salvation Army to give kids in need toys for Christmas. These toys were donated by the community and repaired and restored by firefighters. In 1976 Local 652 members restored the department’s 1904 American LaFrance Steam Fire Engine to celebrate our nation’s 200 Anniversary. Once restore members traveled the state of California competing in musters. HBF 652 members still operate Old Town #2 Steamer for the departments Open House and Special Occasions.
